Here is my Script Describing everything I was saying:
Script
These are some movie clips that are going to help me define the future concept of the internet of things, which is becoming less of a future concept and more of a “NOW” concept. The internet of things refers to objects for example household objects like smart appliances or it can be city wide objects like streets, lights and buildings etc. They are all connected by the internet which means they are all quote smart, constantly gaining information and distributing information and eventually becoming eventually in the future a smart atmosphere with all of this data about everyone single person . It’s pretty incredible to think about,
In this film, Disney’s smart house you see just that. The house is gaining information about the new family and then readjusting to make their life more comfortable. In this scene, the boy talks and the house analyzes his overall health and then breaks down his diet for him. Later the girl asks for a smoothie and the house makes one for her and when she ends up dropping it, the house cleans it up for her because it is a smart house and knows how adapt to make solutions for certain problems like every day spills and messes. Later in this movie the boy messes with the houses software and , PAT the house, which stands for Personal Applied Technology ends up holding them hostage and tries to be there mother. So this is an example of a glitch in smart house technology, It begs the question, what happens if the technology gets too smart and then fights back?
The reason I picked this clip from iron man is because the everyday ordinary alarm clock controlled by JARVIS his computerized butler is turned into this smart technology. Something as simple as being woken up by you alarm clock is turned into this experience not only complete with a beautiful view of the beach and a voice saying good morning, but you are immediately updated with information about the day like temperature, time, surf, tides and etc.
This scene from the fifth element is similar in that it demonstrates the same idea. The smart objects in his home know that he is a wake and makes all of this noise trying to further wake him up and get him out of bed. And when he gets out of bed the bed just knows to go into the wall which is pretty cool. All of the smart objects in his home have a routine that is set up by him and his overall needs.
This is another clip from the fifth element and I chose it because is another great example of smart appliances. The objects are serving him water and fruit and it knew when he took a cherry, Interestingly enough the other man in the video says, “where’s your robot to pat you on the back?” when he starts choking. This asks another question, will technology ever be able to replace human beings or will there no longer be a need for social human interaction for that matter?
In Disney’s WALL-E is this futuristic earth less setting and everything is smart and everything is made to serve humans. The chairs take them places so they don’t even have to be mobile anymore as they talk to other people on a hologram Skype kind of thing. This is almost a scary glimpse into the future because they are completely oblivious to everything around them completely reliant on technology.
